Sweet convo with waiter
So, last night Erin and I were out on our weekly date night at one of our favorite restaurants ever – Park Cafe in Duluth. Very classy, and to be honest, would be out of our price range except for the fact that restaurant.com always has coupons for it. The food was great (roasted chicken, shrimp & grits) as always, but the most encouraging part was the convo we had with our waiter. We will say his name is Ryan, and every single time we have eaten at this place he has waited on us (literally). We’ve developed a friendship, but nothing beyond the usual “how’s things going?” However, this time Ryan informed us that he had a major exam coming up and that he was really nervous. We let him know that we would be praying for him this week. In response, Ryan went on to tell us that he was a believer, but he hadn’t been seeking God for very long. He said that he had actually begun his spiritual quest as an atheist out to prove the Bible wrong. He said he studied the Bible more and more and slowly but surely his journey initially motivated by pride to disprove the Bible turned into an encounter with the true, living God. Ryan is a different person than he was, humble and leaning on God as best as he knows how. He is a work in process, as all of us are, but I just had to share of the way God met Ryan and changed his life. The reality is that Ryan’s story is repeated all the time. In fact the classic book “More than a Carpenter,” was actually written by Josh McDowell because in his attempt to disprove Christianity he found the truth of Christ to be real and liberating…and logical. I’d recommend reading it (6 bucks on amazon), especially if you are skeptical about this whole Jesus thing. Peace on ya,
bb
