Interesting to ponder…
Two weeks ago I attended a leadership conference, and the questions were asked, “If Jesus were to move into your neighborhood, what would he do? In the first week? In the first month? In 6 months?” I believe these are important questions to consider for a few reasons. First, it helps us to think of Jesus as alive and working in our neighborhood today, in our own unique context. It can be easy to only think of Jesus in terms of the Jewish God-man that lived in the Middle East 2,000 years ago and brought the good news of the gospel to the people “back then.” This of course is a wrong way of viewing Jesus, because He lives forever, “always lives to intercede” for people, and “is able to save completely those who come to God” (Hebrews 7:23-25). Ultimately, this question of “what would Jesus do if he moved into your neighborhood?” should be a window into how we ourselves could and should engage our own neighborhood. After all, the Bible is clear that we are Christ’s body on the earth (1 Cor. 12), and that believers are called as “Christ’s ambassadors”- how awesome but also humbling to realize God is actually “making his appeal through us” to the world (2 Cor. 5:20). So, take a second, think about what Jesus might literally do if he moved into your specific neighborhood the first week, the firth month, and the first 6 months. Please leave your comments on this, and how it affects the way you live today. peace on ya,
bb
